This is the catalogue for paintings by Zhang Daqian, organised to commemerate the ninety-fifth anniversary of the birth of the artist in 1899 and the tenth anniversary of his death in 1983. The exhibition marked the first posthumous public showing of Zhang's paintings from any private collection.
Mei Yun Tang was founded by Mr. and Mrs. Kao Lingmei to recognise their special friendship with the artist. It also aims at furthering research and appreciation of the art of Master Zhang. In the present publication, the paintings are divided into three sections, namely, figure painting, paintings of flower-and-bird and animals, and landscape. These paintings were executed by the artist during the period 1929-1968. A chronology of Zhang Daqian and a selected bibliography are included, together with appendices providing information of signatures and seals of the master, and also, a piece his writing, entitled 'Chinese Painting: With the Original Paintings and Discourses on Chinese Art'.
