An exhibition showcasing mainland Chinese artists from two cities; Kunming (Yunnan province) and Chengdu (Sichuan province). ‘ Yunnan artists portray a romantic nostalgia, whilst at the same time concealing an inner anxiety with a layer of humour to camouflage a sad recognition of a lost lifestyle. Familiar images on first view are simple and uncomplicated; look longer and one can read their underlying message...In Chengdu it is more difficult for the artists to create a tightly structured artists community: Commercialism and anonymity are the exacting survival code of Chengdu.
