This is the catalogue for a series of exhibitions of works by fourteen contemporary Chinese artists held at Galerie Enrico Navarra, Paris in 2002. Chinese experimental art was first noticed by the international art community in the early 1990s. The essay written by Chang Tsong-zung traces its development and points out the growing popularity in using alternative media in making art which makes public participation a great possibility and in turn encourages even more experimentation. Michel Nuridsany provides a Western perspective as to how China and Chinese art are seen and understood by a Western audience. Artist biographies and excerpts on their works are included in this catalogue. A selected bibliography is also provided.
