This book and the exhibition with the same title are considered by Takashi Murakami as the close of the ‘Superflat Trilogy’ which began with the exhibition and publication ‘Superflat’ in 2000. The ‘Little Boy’ exhibition was held at Japan Society Gallery and various venues in New York from April to July 2005. ‘Little Boy’ explores the culture of postwar Japan through its arts and popular visual media. In Murakami's perspective, a resonant figure for Japan's contemporary condition is that of the 'little boy', both the nickname for the bomb dropped on Hiroshima and an image of Japan's infantalized culture. Works including film and video animations, video games, internet sites, music, toys, and fashion, are presented. With bibliography.
