The catalogue of the 1995 Kwangju Biennale is published in a five volume series. The special exhibitions 'Eastern Spirit and Ink Painting' and 'Korea Contemporary Art' are included in Volume 4 of this series. Chang Sukwon, curator of 'Eastern Spirit and Ink Painting' comments that the biennale will be the venue where all the tension inherent in traditional values submerge while the common ground for the global culture emerges. According to Suh Sungrok, curator of 'Korea Contemporary Art', the purpose of the exhibition is to provide an opportunity to observe the correlation between social changes and art; while Yoon Jinsup, also the curator of 'Korea Contemporary Art' examines the pluralistic aspect of Korean art that emerged in the course of Korea's modern art history during the 1980's and 1990's. Biographical notes are provided in the catalogue.
