The catalogue of the 1995 Kwangju Biennale is published in a five volume series. The special exhibitions 'Art as Witness' and 'The Spirit of Kwangju Resistance in May' are included in Volume 2 of the series. "Art of Witness' showcased political works by international artists. As the curator of the exhibition, Lim Youngbang examined the role of art as a witness to historical events, political movements and the progress of modern civilization. 'The Spirit of Kwangju Resistance in May' showcased mainly works by local Korean artists who have been active members in the 'People's Art' movement. In their essays, curators Won Dongsuk and Kwak Daewon investigated this cultural movement, its relation to the gruesome Kwangju revolt in 1980 and how the biennale was organised with this turbulent history as a backdrop. Artist biographies are provided.

Other participating artists include: Vladmir Tatlin, Diego Rivera, Rene Magritte, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Marcel Duchamp, Julio Gonzalez, Marc Chagall, Andre Masson, Roberto Matta, Jean Fautrier, Markus Lupertz, Yves Klein, Christian Boltanski, Joseph Beuys, Jean Pierre Raynaud, Zoran Music, Giacomo Balla, Edward Kienholz, Erro, Ilya Kabakov, Dmitrij Prigov, Antony Gormley, Braco Dmitrijevic, Jim Dine, Michail Roginsky, Leonid Sokov, KP Brehmer, Andres Serrano, Kiki Smith, Cindy Sherman, Paul Garrin, Sarajevo Trio.
