Catalogue of the group exhibition 'Beautiful New World: Contemporary Visual Culture from Japan', which was held in Beijing and Guangzhou, China in conjunction with Japan-China Culture and Sports Exchange Year 2007. The exhibition presented works by 34 Japanese contemporary artists, whose focus also included other facets of Japan's popular culture such as media art, architecture, fashion, manga and anime. This is the first exhibition to be presented in China that comprehensively introduces contemporary Japanese culture of the 1990s and afterward. It also explores contemporary Japanese society from many angles through a diversity of expression that might be associated with a world that is both 'beautiful' and 'new'. Includes images of each art work accompanied by short introductory texts by curators (in English and Chinese) and artists' biographies (in English only).
