Review titled 'Artist under 20' by Eric Torres for his column 'Way of Seeing' in Manila Times on 6 March 1967.
The exhibition '20 Artists' was curated by Roberto Chabet at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Los Banos, Laguna from 28 February to 3 March 1967. It featured paintings and prints by twenty young artists, including: Angelito Antonio, Antonio Austria, Virgilio Aviado, Norma Belleza, Chabet, Restituto Embuscado, Marciano Galang, Lamberto Hechanova, Alfredo Liongoren, Noel Manalo, and Luis Romero.
In this review, Torres mentioned that an earlier exhibition, featuring 14 of the 20 artists in the IRRI exhibition, had been planned by Jose Joya for the Art Association of the Philippines. However this did not push through and Chabet 'picked it up from there and expanded the original list of artists to 20, and transported the show to IRRI.'
Torres noted, 'this show gathered for the first time the works of practically all artists of note under 30 who have gotten wide publicity within the past five years. Chabet adopted an 'Open House' attitude in the IRRI show, accommodating all kinds of artistic persuasions and technical obsessions.'
