Review of Roberto Chabet's solo exhibition 'He Couldn't Draw Hands', titled 'Shock Value of Good Intentions' by Rachel Patanne-Mayo and published in The Manila Times on 6 December 1990. The exhibition was held at The Brix Gallery from 27 November - 18 December 1990.
The exhibition features 'two works each made up of a set of separate paintings. The first work, Delays and Early Arrivals, explores time, delays, waiting, false-starts, and unexpected arrivals. The second, How To Make A Rainbow, is a homage to Joseph Cornell from whose 1963 - 1965 collage the title was borrowed. Both works pay tribute to what is 'magical, transcendent, and ineffable in the commonplace'.
The title of the exhibition, 'He Couldn't Draw Hands' refers to a comment made about the work of Marcel Duchamp - 'He couldn't draw hands, but he can sure draw blood in his work'.
