The mural is on the walls of an octagonal building, which is situated at the centre of Santiniketan's Kala Bhavan campus and was once the studio of artist Nandalal Bose (3 December 1882–16 April 1966).
The stoneware tiles that the mural was made of were manufactured in a factory close to Santiniketan. K.G. Subramanyan put white slip on the tiles, which were fired in a kiln afterwards. The creation of the mural was initiated in November 2011 and completed in February 2012.
In the making of this mural, K.G. Subramanyan was assisted by Dillip Mitra, Amit Danda, Sheikh Shahjahan, Arunangshu, and members of the ceramic unit ‘Confetti’.
The building currently serves as the Art History Department at the Kala Bhavan Campus.
