Excerpt from Kamala Kapoor, The Art Of Vivan Sundaram, Lustre Press, Roli Books, New Delhi, 2002:
'The boat, a container grounded for temporary shelter, and stationed beside the assaulted home, is wide open for the spectator to walk into, or to view the video enactment at the prow end. Propped up on railway sleepers, the ensemble can also be read as that of a cross: the dysfunctional boat, hoisted up awkwardly, its body lying on heavy blocks of wood carrying the marks of nails.'
(Vivan Sundaram in an interview for the exhibition, 'Shelter,' in 1999 in Delhi/Mumbai)
