'Secret Archipelago features 35 artists and over 40 newly commissioned artworks. The exhibition invites audiences to discover languages, codes and cultural expressions that are part of the contemporary creation of Southeast Asia. Secret Archipelago reflects an osmosis between the cultures of the archipelago and a sensibility that is deeply entrenched within an indigenous heritage. The works features here represent a bridging of gaps between the past and future and the creative tension between memory, tradition and contemporary influences.
Secret Archipelago is co-curated and produced by the National Heritage Board, Singapore and Palais de Tokyo, Paris in the context of Singapour en Fance - le Festival. The exhibition is brought to you through various media, including installations, videos, sculptures, sound works and a series of performances which will intervene in the heart of the exhibition space.'
