This catalogue accompanies the exhibition entitled 'Reorienting: Looking East' held at Third Eye Centre, Glasgow from January to March 1990, and at Nicola Jacobs Gallery, London from March to April 1990.
'[...] Reorienting: Looking East is the first exhibition in Britain to exhibit work by Miyajima, Morimura and Sugimoto. But the exhibition is not primarily about introducing new artists. By placing together the work of Japanese artists alongside western artists - who have made work which expresses a fascination with the complexity of Japan's influence in the world - the exhibition questions the nature of our perceptions of 'Japan' and 'the East'.' (by Andrew Nairne, Nicola Jacobs, Foreword, 'Reorienting: Looking East')
With artists' biographies. Western artists participating in this exhibition are Christian Boltanski, Sarah Charlesworth, Jon Kessler and Georges Rousse. Names of Japanese artists are listed below.
