Founded in 2004 and a registered group in 2006 by a group of artists and art practitioners, Mere Independent Artists Group (MIA) is a non-profit organisation focused on building art careers of its members, and the promotion of contemporary art in Hong Kong. MIA has since organised various exhibitions, talks, education programmes, and art projects.

The Art Container Project was organised by the Mere Independent Artists (MIA) in Hong Kong and ran from 2008 to 2014. The project invited thirty-eight Hong Kong artists to paint on shipping containers which were then taken to various cities around the world and finally return to Hong Kong. Each journey lasted for three years.
