The catalogue was published in conjunction with the 1973 exhibition which travelled to several locations in Pakistan according to the introduction of the catalogue, starting in Karachi. The curators, invited by the Pakistan Ministry of Information, included Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Justice Feroz Nana, Shakir Ali, and Zubeida Agha. The exhibition aimed to create a collection of contemporary Pakistani paintings that could represent the last 25 years since the country's establishment in 1947.
