Letter from Salon Natasha

Letter written by Natasha Kraevskaia on 17 March 1997. Kraevskaia, as the project curator and the director of Salon Natasha, explained in the letter the development of the 'Crosscurrents' project, seeking support for the exhibitions which were then projected to be held in 1997 and 1998.

Crosscurrents was one of the most important projects conducted by Salon Natasha. It was a collaborative project by mail between six Vietnamese and four Australian artists. It provided an example of how a private initiative between two individuals that begins as a kind of art entertainment, an artists’ game of exchange and collaboration, can result in a number of significant art events both in Vietnam and Australia.

The exhibition was held in Hanoi received good press coverage both in Vietnam and Australia, as well as support from Australian art authorities. Later on the project got a grant to tour the exhibition to ten different venues in Australia. The works from the Crosscurrents project were shown in Lismore , NSW ( Lismore Regional Art gallery), Townsville, QLD (Perc Tucker Regional Art gallery), Darwin, NT (24 HR ART gallery), Geraldon, WA (Geraldon Regional Art gallery), Toowoomba, QLD (Toowoomba Regional Art gallery), Tewanten, QLD (Noosa Regional Art gallery), Brisbane, QLD ( Queensland College of the Arts), Gold Coast, QLD (Gold Coast City Art gallery),Murwillumbah, NSW (Tweed River Regional Art gallery), and Mildura, VIC (Mildura Art Centre).
