Roberto Chabet: Bread

Manuscript of the notes on Roberto Chabet's exhibition, 'Bread', written by Carina Evangelista. The exhibition was held at MO_Space from 13 - 29 September 2011.

The exhibition features an updated version of an earlier installation by Chabet at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in the 1970s. The earlier work consisted of several pieces of 'monay' (local Filipino bread) painted pink and arranged in a grid on the floor. In the new version, the 'monay' is unpainted and placed on top of square mirrors. Also added in the Project Room of MO_Space is an installation comprised of a single piece of 'monay' made with cast iron and placed on top of a square mirror on the floor, seemingly torched under the heat of the halogen lights.

The exhibition is part of 'Roberto Chabet: Fifty Years,' a year-long series of exhibitions organised by King Kong Art Projects Unlimited in various venues in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Manila from 2011 - 2012.
