Photograph of Roberto Chabet's installation, Bread, exhibited under the same title at MO_Space from 13 - 29 September 2011. The photograph shows the installation in the Project Room of MO_Space, which is comprised of a single piece of 'monay' (local Filipino bread) made with cast iron and placed on top of a square mirror on the floor, seemingly torched under the heat of the halogen lights.
The work is an updated version of an earlier installation by Chabet in the Cultural Center of the Philippines in the 1970s. The earlier work consisted of several pieces of 'monay' painted pink and arranged in a grid manner on the floor. In the new version, the 'monay' is unpainted and placed on top of square mirrors.
The exhibition is part of 'Roberto Chabet: Fifty Years,' a year-long series of exhibitions organised by King Kong Art Projects Unlimited in various venues in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Manila from 2011 - 2012.
