Untitled (Artgum)

Photograph of Roberto Chabet's Untitled box framed Artgum eraser. The eraser is a part of Chabet's work in 'Other Dutch Paintings' and 'Still Other Dutch Paintings', two simultaneous exhibitions at Finale Art Gallery and West Gallery from 17 - 29 October 1995.

Chabet wrote, 'The two exhibitions complete a trilogy of works that began with 'Dutch and Other Paintings' which was seen at West Gallery in 1989. The current works take an end-of-the-century glance at one of the wellsprings of modern painting - Mondrian, De Stijl, and the Dutch vanguard painting of the early 20th century.'

'The cycle of works explores the measure and metaphor of distance and otherness caught in the vagaries of geography, time, memory, history, and culture.'

'In the year the 50th death anniversary of Mondrian is commemorated, the works contemplate and pay homage to the Dutch master's early works: The Red Windmill of 1911 and the series of compositions with coloured planes of 1917.'
