Review of Roberto Chabet's solo exhibition, 'Pictures in Ordinary Times', titled 'Modernizing Modern Art' by Arturo C. Veloira, published in Business World on 25 March 1992.
The exhibition, held at Finale Art File, Sunvar Plaza, Makati in March 1992, features two same-titled paintings installed on opposite walls, directly facing each other. The title refers to 'ordinary times', which in liturgical terms connotes the period after the 'strong seasons'.
Other artists mentioned in the review include Chabet's former students, Nilo Ilarde, Ronald Achacoso, Pardo de Leon, Bert Antonio and Gerry Tan.
Excerpt from the review:
'Top Filipino artist Roberto Chabet is a better example of a 'modern' artist, whose name is considered by many as synonymous to the word itself. But his being modern is not characterized by the very contemporary zest of his artworks alone. He is also very experimental in pronouncing his own ideas about art, and in creating thought-provoking and innovative art making structures that allow his students to discover the true meaning of being 'true to the meaning of art'.'
