Biography:

Huang Yali (b.1954, Enshi, Hubei Province) is an artist based in Vancouver.

Huang graduated from Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, Wuhan, China in 1978. From 1978-1989, she worked in the sculpture studio at Hubei Art Academy. Her work Spring was awarded Prize of Excellence at 6th National Art Exhibition in 1984, and was collected by the National Art Museum of China.

Early in her career, Huang was active in Hubei and her focus was mainly on modern ceramics and experimental sculpture. In 1989, she participated in ‘China Avant-Garde Art Exhibition’ at the National Art Museum of China and in the same year, she was invited to partake in an artist residency program at The Banff Centre in Canada. Huang subsequently relocated to Vancouver. In 1991, she participated in ‘1st Chinese Artistic Creation Seminar’, held at San Diego State University Art Gallery, USA.

Recent exhibitions include: ‘Yipai - Century Thinking Contemporary Art Exhibition’ (2008-2009, Italy, Spain, China); ‘Trends in Hubei and Hunan: Chinese Contemporary Art in Hubei and Hunan 1985-2009’ (2009, Guangdong Museum of Art).

黃雅莉，1954年出生于湖北恩施，藝術家，現居溫哥華。

1978年畢業於湖北藝術學院，1978到1989年任湖北省美術院雕塑工作室藝術家。1984年《第六屆全國美術作品展》上，她的作品〈泉〉獲優秀作品獎，中國美術館收藏。

黃雅莉是活躍于湖北的現代藝術家，早期從事現代陶藝及各種雕塑形式實驗。1989年作品參加《中國現代藝術展》；1989年赴加拿大班芙藝術中心任客居藝術家，後旅居住溫哥華； 1991年參加在美國加州聖地牙哥大學舉行的《第一屆中國美術創作研討會》。

近年參加展覽包括︰《意派》（2008－2009，義大利、西班牙、中國）；《兩湖潮流—湖北.湖南當代藝術展1985-2009》（2009，中國廣東美術館）。
