In this letter, Subramanyan talks about his recent body of works and his study on early Bengal school and his efforts on documenting the drawings of Nandalal Bose. He also mentions that he has asked Jyoti Bhatt to help with taking photographs during the documentation process.

The letter is dated 17 April 1978.

Context

Artist Benodebehari Mukherjee (b.1904 – d.1980) is considered one of the pioneers of 20th century modern art in India. Having taught in Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, he was the mentor and teacher of some stalwart artists including K.G Subramanyan. Because of the close relationship between Benodebehari Mukherjee and K.G Subramanyan over the years, the two artists continued exchanging through letters after K. G. Subramanyan left Santiniketan to teach at the Faculty of Fine Arts, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, in 1951.
