Exhibition catalogue of ‘Birth and Life of Modernity’.

Context

‘Birth and Life of Modernity’ was an exhibition of ‘Impressionist’ and ‘Post-Impressionist’ masterpieces from the French state collections. Held between 6th February and 5th March 1989, the exhibition was part of the Festival of France in India, under the patronage of Government of Republic of India and the Government of Republic of France.The Indian Commissioners for ‘Birth and Life of Modernity’ were Anis Farooqi, Gulammohammed Sheikh and Geeta Kapur. It was organized by following French Agencies: I’ Association  Francaised’ Action Artistique (AFFA);  The Ministry of External Affairs; The Secretariat of State for International Cultural Relations, in collaboration with the Musee d’Orsay, Paris and the Musee National d’Art Moderne, Pompidou Centre, Paris. In India participating organizations were The Festival of India, New Delhi, and National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi.
