This work is from the Re-take of Amrita series.
Excerpt from Vivan Sundaram, Vivan Sundaram: Re-take of Amrita, Tulika Books, New Delhi, 2001:
'A set of sensual self-photographs by Umrao Singh display his body, when he has just turned sixty, and is part of his documentation record of fasting for fifteen days. His notebook has detailed accounts of what he ate during this period, daily records of weight, bowel movement, pulse, temperature, etc. Time and again, the living room of the Sher-Gil flat in Paris turns into a private photo-studio. Umrao Singh’s 1930 'document' of Amrita in a swimsuit finds its way into this space.'
