Ellen Pau joined the artist group Assemblage and created the installation Intermission at the Fringe Club in 1986. In 1987, Ellen Pau collaborated with Assemblage in another installation Dial S for Sanity (1987) and presented at the Hong Kong Fringe Festival '87. 

Dial S for Sanity led to Ellen Pau's video work The Disenchantment of Statue (1987), which is an experimental documentary on the making of the installation.
