Danish Matches
Context

Danish Matches was realised on 26 May 2007 in an area around Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Coppenhagen, Denmark. The performance is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s tale The Little Match Girl. At 10 a.m. that day, Yang Zhichao lit a match and started walking along the roads around the art museum. He burned around two thousand matches one after another during the performance that lasted for 6 hours, until he returned to the art museum at 4 p.m..
