This folder contains materials on the exhibition ‘Collage’, on view at Salon Natasha from 17 February to 4 March 2000. It aimed to strengthen the position of collage, which used to be regarded as a ‘low’ art form, and to demonstrate its expressive possibilities. The exhibition introduced works by Mai Thi Oanh and Nguyen Hong Xuong. All of Mai Thi Oanh's collages are created from swaths of fabric, and reveal bright and intense colours of Vietnamese nature to underscore the tension of scenes and stories transmitted by the artist. Nguyen Hong Xuong’s works refer to the Vietnamese practice of ancestor worship and ceremonies for the deceased, in the form of offerings made from votive paper.
