'Presenting 33 artists living and working in New York, Making a Home aspires to expand the concept of "Japanese contemporary art" and establish the idea of a Japanese aesthetic diaspora in New York City. In doing so, it examines the contribution of Japanese contemporary art to global trends, identities, and outlooks... This exhibition is premised upon the ideas surrounding a home, ranging from the comfort and safety found in a physical structure to the angst and loneliness felt from living in solitude. These emotions play out in Making a Home, often reflecting the artists' coping strategies with life in New York City.' - Eric C. Shiner, curator.
This catalogue includes plates of the artists' works accompanied by explanatory essays written by contributors, brief interviews with each artist, and artists' biographies.
