This publication is produced on the occasion of solo exhibition of Hong Kong artist Yang Jiechang of the same title held at the Hong Kong Central Library from June to July 2015. The exhibition is part of Le French May 2015.
'Yang Jiechang is an artist that exemplifies the traditions and hallmarks of French culture. The exhibition traces Yang's career from his meditative monochromatic artworks to his recent meticulous colour paintings of animal and landscapes. Having lived and worked in Paris since 1989, Yang Jiechang straddles the cross hairs of cross-cultural dialogue, neither completely French nor authentically Chinese. His artworks demonstrate a concerted commitment to re-imagining and challenging what is considered acceptable and classified as fine painting.' - excerpted from foreword.
