Published to accompany an exhibition of the same title, Text & Subtext is a collection of essays that addresses issues confronting women involved in contemporary art in Asia. It seeks to initiate a dialogue between practitioners from geographically separated and often-unconnected Asian regions, despite the view of Asia being an integrated entity. The essays presented here cover issues such as the image of women as expressed in fashion, comparisons between men's art practices and that of women, the view of a changing Diaspora art practice, and the differences of understanding inherent in the practice of a non-indigenous art form.
