'The main object of the 2nd Shanghai Biennial is to contextualize the recent development of ink art by 1. focusing on ink as a material, 2. positioning the contemporary development of ink art in relation to traditional practices, and 3. further exploring new international possibilities for ink art... The exhibition component will be accompanied by a symposium, to which many reputable national and international scholars have been invited.' - Fan Zengxian, Director of Shanghai Art Museum. Fan also believes that open dialogue is necessary to ensure the ongoing improvement of ink art.
The catalogue includes preface by Fan Zengxian, foreword by Annie Wong and artist biographies.
