10,000 Paintings I Must Paint Before I Die and Box Paintings (Exhibition View)

Photograph of Roberto Chabet's work, which combines his previous installations, 10,000 Paintings I Must Paint Before I Die and Box Paintings.

10,000 Paintings
is composed of grids of red, yellow, blue, black, and white canvasses attached onto clipboards and a neon text taken from the title of an Art History guidebook. The work was exhibited at Mag:net Gallery, Katipunan, in 2009. Box Paintings, also exhibited at Mag:net in 2011, is composed of similarly coloured plywood boxes randomly arranged in sets of 3. The new installation uses the same wooden boxes, which have been re-painted black, as if to suggest the passage of time and history.

The work is included in 'Roberto Chabet, Lee Aguinaldo and Fernando Zobel: Windows to Conversations,' a group exhibition by Roberto Chabet, Lee Aguinaldo, and Fernando Zobel at Ateneo Art Gallery from 6 October 2011 - 28 January 2012. The exhibition is part of 'Roberto Chabet: Fifty Years,' a year-long series of exhibitions organised by King Kong Art Projects Unlimited in various venues in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Manila from 2011 - 2012.
