Manuscript of the press release of Roberto Chabet's first solo exhibition, titled 'New Painter at Luz Gallery'.
The press release includes a quote from critic Rodrigo Perez III:
'The emergence of a young and extremely gifted competent artist like Rodriguez Chabet is just what Philippine art needs at the moment. The excitement in his work is not a superficial kind, but an internal and lasting one. The most obvious elements in his paintings are the geometric shapes, the neutral colours and the quiet harmony of lines and tones. There is not much of an emotional statement in his work, but rather the distillation of his response to the subject. I sense an impartiality that is almost philosophical, as well as definiteness of purpose. The painter knows what he wants and how to achieve it. The gimmicks, if any, do not show at all. Despite influences, Rodriguez Chabet succeeds in expressing a distinct personality.'
The exhibition opened at Luz Gallery on 22 April 1961. Originally scheduled to end on 4 May, the exhibition was extended until 11 May.
