This photograph captures Nalini Malani with her daughter, Aparna Kapadia (now a historian) at the Kasauli Art Centre Artist Workshop.
The Artist Workshop was held for three weeks between May and June in 1980. Participating artists included artists Ranbir Kaleka, Sudhir Patwardhan, Nalini Malani, Manu Parekh, Gieve Patel, Biplabi Samadhar, Bhupen Khakhar, Arwed Gorella, Madhavi Parekh, Jayashree Chakravarty, Virendra Patel, K.M. Adimoolam, Laxma Goud, Mickey Patel, and critic Mala Maruah and R.P. Jain.
During the course of this workshop, Kasauli Art Centre organised a seminar on Thomas Mann's 'Dr. Faustus'.
Kasauli Art Centre was founded in 1976 by artist Vivan Sundaram in Kasauli, a hill station in Himachal Pradesh North India. The Centre is known to have organised artists camps, international artist residency programmes, seminars and theater workshops, all designed to explore common grounds between artists, film-makers, critics, architects, playwrights and performers.
