Excerpt from essay by Sacha Craddock, published in Vivan Sundaram: Map, Monument, Fallen Mortal, South London Gallery, London, 1994:

'Stone Column Mirroring Postcards, 1992, displays reproductions ranging from late Leger, early Renaissance Madonnas and Indian miniatures as well as handwritten messages and drawings by friends within a 'traditionally' carved stone column. This collection of personal ephemera does a lot more than just 'show off' the artist's extensive range of experience. He is specifically using the equivalent of the pin board in the studio, office or kitchen to hint at the cultural diversity in which he exists. A choice made by others has been selected again. Reproductions settled with original drawings in a second-hand and third-hand manifestation. As it is impossible to see both the front and the back of these cards, they remain partially obscured rather like the price of an antique in a shop window.'
